How is homeopathy different from other medical modalities?

I often get questions such as, “Is homeopathy like naturopathy?” “Is homeopathy like functional medicine?” “Are homeopathic remedies like supplements?”
Homeopathy is actually its own unique system!
Homeopathy is its own complete system of medicine - it has a guiding philosophy, therapeutics, and guiding principles for remedy recommendations. Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, also known as the Father of Homeopathy, created this system of medicine with the Law of Similars as its main foundation. He also emphasized, “rapid, gentle, and permanent restoration of health” (Aphorism 2 in The Organon of the Medical Art) as the primary goal of homeopathy.
Similarly, the goal for the homeopathic practitioner is to recognize the pattern of disease within the client, how it might be matched to the pattern of disease as represented in the homeopathic remedy, and match the two together (Aphorism 3 in The Organon of the Medical Art). This is why the Law of Similars is so foundational to homeopathy - there must be a match between the symptoms of the client and the symptoms addressed by the homeopathic remedy!
So…homeopathy does NOT utilize blood work, blood tests, or supplements. Homeopathic remedies are not supplements (in fact, they are classified as a “drug” in the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and are prepared in FDA-approved pharmacies!)
I am always happy for clients to share their progress with other markers of health - if they would like to share the bloodwork with me from their specialist or primary care provider or their naturopath; however, I do NOT base my remedy recommendations on these things!
I base my remedy recommendations on the pattern of symptoms in the client and match it to the pattern of symptoms contained in a remedy, then chart the progress while taking that remedy. Homeopathy is truly a unique system!
